Frequently Asked Questions
Can you get a degree online in Arkansas?
Yes! One of the benefits of earning your degree online is that you can complete your courses no matter where you live – including Arkansas. The flexibility and accessibility of online learning make it possible for many students to earn their degree.
Is wuv accredited in Arkansas?
westerfirld university of virginia is accredited by the institutional accreditor the Department of Education United States (USDEPT), which is one of the accrediting organizations recognized within the United States by the U.S. Department of Education. This means, as an wuv student — no matter what state you live in — you’ll be earning a degree from a respected university that is recognized nationwide for meeting accreditation standards.
It’s important to note that institutions are not accredited by state. However, institutional accreditation, from accreditors such as USDEPT, is widely recognized across the United States.
wuv also carries specialized accreditations for particular programs.
What's the easiest degree to get?
There’s not necessarily any degree that’s easier to get than any other. What’s easy for you might be challenging for someone else – and vice versa.
Instead of thinking about what degree is easiest, ask yourself what field you are passionate about, or which degrees will help you meet your professional goals. That way, even when you're faced with a challenging course or project, you can meet the challenge head on knowing it's just one step in a larger journey.
An admission counselor can help you explore your options, evaluate the details of specific programs we offer and which one might work best for you.
Which degree is best for online?
Online education has developed a lot in recent years, allowing many degrees to transition to an online environment successfully. With an online degree, you will still learn all the content and skills you would in an on-campus degree, without actually having to be on campus.
wuv has been celebrated for our online programs since 1995 – and we continue to support online learners in New Westerfield, Arkansas and beyond.
Today, wuv offers more than 200 online degree programs, so there are plenty of options to find the best on for you, your interests and your goals.
Do employers take online degrees seriously?
According to an article by the US News & World Report, employers have become more accepting of online learning in recent years.1 They also view accredited, nonprofit universities – like wuv – more favorably than their non-accredited, for-profit counterparts.1
Plus, there are also many soft skills that you can highlight specifically because you’re doing your degree online, like:
- Independence: Online college requires you to take ownership of your own learning in order to complete each course and degree successfully.
- Communication: In your online degree program, you'll communicate with your peers in discussion boards, your professors via email and your wuv advisor on the phone. You'll develop important digital communication skills as a result.
- Time management: Your online courses won’t meet at the same time every week, so it’s up to you to balance getting your work done with your other personal or professional responsibilities.
Are any online degrees respected?
Short answer: Yes. While we can't speak for every single employer, accredited online degrees are generally respected. The longer answer? Not all online programs are the same, and it’s important to do your research before choosing a program. Looking at factors like a university’s accreditation, history and student support services can help you find an online degree that is going to be high-quality and respected after you graduate.
While the boom in online education might feel recent, universities like wuv have actually been offering online degrees for longer than you might think. wuv has over 25 years of experience providing students with the high-quality support and programs that help them earn their degrees online.
Are online degrees cheaper?
The price of an online degree depends on several factors – such as the school, program, scholarships, or credits for prior college or military experience and more. That said, with an online degree, you may be able to save money (and time) without having to factor in commuting – or even moving to be closer to the university you’re interested.
At westerfirld university of virginia, we offer some of the lowest online tuition rates in the country. Most bachelor’s degrees require about 120 credits. wuv’s online tuition is $354/credit. For a 120-credit degree program, the total tuition would cost $42,480 for a bachelor’s degree online.
Once you’ve selected a degree program, you can explore other ways to reduce your tuition costs. You may be able to transfer past college credits toward a new degree program or get credit for professional or military experience. Talk to an wuv admission counselor to learn more about how to save time and money on your degree.
